Description

Ahbwaahh, I feel a little guilty for taking time out of the commission list to work on this. .m. It took a day and a half to pull off but it was for a contest that Bernina was holding!

I had a chance to win $1000 which would have been spent on a more powerful machine for plushies. u__u

The contest challenge was to take old clothes out of your closet and turn them into a costume for Halloween. .... I still like to dress up as video game and anime characters for the holiday so I pulled out stuff I would most likely not wear anymore and looked around online to see what I could do!

Rita Mordio was like... perfect. *____*

Materials used:

three red shirts (plain, bedazzled fireworks, nike longsleeve)

two black shirts (v-neck, long sleeve holey worn thing @A@)

black slacks (HUGE hole in the crotch, got worn away to nothing from walking/running around so much)

yellow shirt (large gross thing I used to use as a night shirt)

long white cotton skirt (bought it a couple years ago, rarely wore it, blehhh)

I used two red shirts to make the top, then strips of white, yellow and black to make those designs. I used the pant legs from the slacks to make the sleeves, and attached those to remaining cuffs from the longsleeve black shirt. With how small the cuffs are, they helped create that poof to Rita’s sleeves. The yellow arm ribbon is from strips of the yellow shirt sewn together.

The obi is a thick strip of black with red strips folded over and stitched to the ends. I took 4-5 strips of yellow, rolled them to hide ends, and after pinning them into a zig zag, I did a zigzag stitch over the top to keep it in place.

The red and black socks are made from left over sleeves on the shirts. I sewed the appropriately colored tips of the socks to the sleeve!socks to make a complete sock. The v-neck black shirt was a stretchy material that I sewed to the top of the red sock to keep the sock up on my thigh. The yellow rings were made with fabric paint.

The white pantleg/sockboot thing was made from the white skirt. I kept the elastic from the skirt in there to keep the pantleg up on my leg. The black part was sewn onto the white to create one GIANT SOCK.

The pockets are totally functional! I used left over red scraps to roll into ribbon, stitched each of them up to keep them together, then tied them into bows. I stitched the knots so they’d stay like that forever, and hand-stitched them to the black.

I’m just really happy that this is completely out of things I planned on throwing out someday! Gaaah, and a HUGE huge thanks to Cory for taking these photos for me and making them so badass. u__u uwaaahhhlaskl

I didn't end up making it to the final round which was disappointing. People got to vote once a day on costumes and the top .... 5 were CUTE BABBUS, so.... meh, I am proud of what I did, but ... I'm a bitter butthole about voting contests since.... people usually vote for the wrong reason. --And I think the the craftsmanship was lost with the unfamiliarity voters had with the costume. u__u wwhich whatevs, I expected that.

And hey, I guess I got a cosplay out of it if I decide not to go with Estelle for Sakuracon.
